Yo dawg, we heard you like remakes. So Square Enix is making a remake of a remake.
Star Ocean: First Departure R is coming sometime soon to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. It’s a remake of Star Ocean: First Departure on PlayStation Portable in 2008, which itself was a remake of the first Star Ocean on Super Nintendo in 1996.

Star Ocean was noteworthy for requiring special hardware in its cartridge so that the Super Nintendo, then seven years old, could handle it. The game’s visuals were so advanced there wasn’t much room left over for the game data, which needed an extra chip.
Star Ocean was followed by four more games on consoles, the most recent being 2016’s Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessnessfor the PlayStation 3 and PS4. 2009’s Star Ocean: The Last Hope was remastered for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in 2017.
Square Enix didn’t give a release date or window, or any other details, whether this will be a physical launch or in online marketplaces only. Stay tuned
