Boba Fett is finally getting his very own stand-alone movie.
The character, who made his first appearance in Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Backas the bounty hunter sent to find Han Solo, will be the subject of a spinoff movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. James Mangold, who directed and co-wrote Logan, is set to write and direct the Boba Fett film.
There isn’t too much information about the spinoff just yet. The Hollywood Reporter didn’t suggest whether it will be the next standalone movie in the Star Wars franchise, though the report did indicate that Fett was one of multiple classic Star Wars characters set to receive his own movie, including Obi-Wan Kenobi. Lucasfilm CEO, Kathleen Kennedy, recently said the studio is also interested in pursuing a stand-alone Lando Calrissian movie.
Rumors about a Boba Fett spinoff have circulated for years. The studio was working on a Boba Fett movie with Fantastic Four director Josh Trank, according to an Entertainment Weekly article from 2015, but that never panned out. Lucasfilm first announced the anthology films in 2013, just after Disney’s acquisition of the company. No official announcement has been made about the standalone project at this time.
