With its unique tilt/steering system sorted, Terracraft’s Supertrike hits the market

Inventor James

Tilting three-wheelers are becoming more common, but there's nothing out there like this. Terracraft's SuperTrike gives you a pair of handlebars to control steering, but the tilt angle is chosen by an intelligent CoPilot computer system that keeps the cabin perfectly level over all sorts of undulations that would tilt a regular car around, and leans the trike into corners for a more aggressive and less nausea-inducing cornering experience. Now that the tilt/steering system is tested and proven, Terracraft is announcing it's ready to accept orders. Gizmag spoke with Terracraft's James "Wes" Abbott.

Boeing proposes 3D printing “ice” for aircraft certification

A patent from Boeing details 3D printing artificial ice to be applied to the leading edges ...

In another potential aerospace application for 3D printing, Boeing has filed an application with the US Patent Office for a way to make artificial "ice." The company isn't planning on making novelty ice cubes for the first class passengers (yet), but has come up with a way of printing plastic and composite shapes that can be tacked onto the wings and other surfaces to simulate icing conditions. According to Boeing, this will help to streamline and reduce the cost of the aircraft certification process.

Diesel engine concept controls heat to cut emissions

A new diesel engine concept could be cheaper and cleaner than current designs

Diesel engines are some of the simplest combustion concepts in use today, with a design that has not changed much in half a century. But what has changed is the complexity of the systems that surround the diesel engine block to overcome inherent inefficiencies in emissions. A research team at the New ACE Institute in Japan has developed a new diesel combustion engine concept using multiple fuel injectors that doesn't require waste heat reduction. With a brake thermal efficiency of greater than 50 percent, the new engine could reduce engine manufacture costs.
