Mass Effect: Andromeda voice cast revealed

Mass Effect: Andromeda picks up the story of the universe centuries after the events of the series’ original trilogy, so it focuses on a new cast of characters: the Ryder family. Game Informer has the details on the voice actors behind the trio of Ryders at the heart of the game’s story.

At the beginning of Mass Effect: Andromeda, players will choose one of the Ryder twins to play as: either Scott Ryder or Sarah Ryder. This is a departure from the previous three games in the franchise, in which the protagonist was the same fundamental character, regardless of whether the player decided to go with a male or female Commander Shepard.

Andromeda developer BioWare has noted previously that both siblings will exist in the universe at the same time. “So if you’re playing as the sister Ryder, female Ryder, your brother is somewhere in the universe,” said Mac Walters in an interview with PlayStation Access two months ago.

Scott Ryder will be played by Tom Taylorson, who voiced the title character in Octodad: Dadliest Catch. His twin sister, Sarah Ryder, will be voiced by Fryda Wolff; she also starred in Octodad, playing the part of the cephalopod’s daughter, Stacy. Wolff’s resume includes many video game voice acting roles, such as the narrator in Civilization: Beyond Earth.

The Ryder twins’ father is another key character in Andromeda’s story. An N7 soldier like Commander Shepard, Alec Ryder is voiced by Clancy Brown, a veteran actor with numerous credits on screen and in the voice-over booth. Some of Brown’s most memorable film roles are Captain Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption and Sgt. Zim in Starship Troopers; his voice acting credits include Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants and Lex Luthor in the Justice League animated series.

The three actors will certainly have big shoes to fill, since the male and female Shepard voice actors — Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale, respectively — played such a huge part in helping players connect with the original trilogy.
